ACADEMICS

Overview

The Institute's interdisciplinary course of study is divided into various components that engage students in a thorough and philosophical examination of government, the price system, society and culture, and conflict management. Lectures and readings connect scientific, theoretical, and philosophical analysis of issues relevant to the Eastern Mediterranean region. The Institute's curriculum is taught by a team of professors from Georgetown University, and other prestigious U.S. universities.

Academic Credits

Academic Credit is available from Georgetown University for both undergraduate and graduate students worth three credit hours. Undergraduate credit can be applied to a Bachelor degree, or graduate credit can be applied to a Master's degree or PhD. In maintaining a sense of diversity, the Institute welcomes students from various academic levels in order to share their knowledge and academic experiences with others. All students must take a comprehensive written exam at the end of the Institute. The examination is tailored for either undergraduate or graduate level students.

The IIPES course is listed in Georgetown University's catalog as:
Political and Economic Systems of Organization, Georgetown University Course # LSHS 48530

*Students will receive 3 credit hours from Georgetown University upon successful completion of IIPES.

**It is highly recommended that students gain acceptance of this credit from their home universities before leaving for Chania and IIPES.

The pace is intense and demanding with activities scheduled each day. Classroom lectures will be from Monday through Saturday in the mornings and early afternoons. Discussion sessions and guest lectures will be conducted in the afternoons. All classes and discussion sections are conducted in English, so proficiency in English is a requirement. The pace of the course is designed to challenge the leadership capabilities of each student.
